City Awarded Qualified Local Government Status By The Georgia Department of Community Affairs

FOREST PARK, Ga. — Jan. 10, 2024 — The City of Forest Park recently announced that it has been awarded Qualified Local Government (QLG) Status by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. As part of the distinguished status, the city will be able to continue accessing special financial resources to assist with long-term community planning initiatives, infrastructure needs and economic development projects.

"Achieving QLC Status is a tremendous milestone not only for city staff, but also for our residents and businesses, as a whole," said Mayor Angelyne Butler, MPA. "Progress throughout Forest Park is not just our main focus – it is also our final destination. Our constituents deserve a government that is forward-thinking and dedicated to putting the needs of the community first. That is why we are devoted to ensuring that transparency and accountability are at the forefront of how we operate as Clayton County's largest municipality."

Since the launch of the ONE Forest Park initiative, city leaders have prioritized operational efficiency, neighborhood sustainability and economic development, which all serve as pillars to help both foster and expand sustainable, future growth. Several notable accomplishments achieved by the city in 2023 include:

  • Adoption of the city's $41.9 million Fiscal Year 2023-2024 operating budget
  • Construction and grand opening of the Gillem Public Safety Building
  • Completion of Phase II of the Main Street Redevelopment Project
  • Creation of two new municipal departments (Code Enforcement and Municipal Court)
  • Adoption of the city's 2023 Comprehensive Plan Update
  • Launch of the Homeowner Maintenance Enhancements (H.O.M.E.) Program
