City Enters Into Agreement With Georgia Power For ONE Light Initiative

FOREST PARK, Ga. — March 27, 2024 — Today, Mayor Angelyne Butler, MPA, and members of the Forest Park City Council formally announced that the City of Forest Park has entered into a service agreement with Georgia Power through its ONE Light initiative to begin upgrading and replacing hundreds of light fixtures citywide.

ONE Light is a collaborative partnership between the City of Forest and Georgia Power aimed at enhancing the city's lighting infrastructure through the replacement of high-intensity discharge (HID) fixtures with more efficient light-emitting diode (LED) lights. The enhancements not only focus on safety but also contribute to the city's neighborhood sustainability goals by reducing the frequency of replacements and overall maintenance costs.

"When you begin to think about the importance of public safety and the significant impact it has on maintaining a high quality of life, streetlights are often taken for granted even though they play such a pivotal role in our everyday lives," said Mayor Butler. "This governing body remains committed to leaving no stone unturned when it comes to the safety and well-being of our residents, businesses and constituents. We are currently in the midst of a new day here in the City of Forest Park, and strategic platforms like ONE Light only enhance the tremendous progress that is already being made throughout our communities."

As part of this initiative, Georgia Power has identified specific areas around city-owned buildings, recreation areas and properties that require lighting installation and upgrades to address safety concerns and reduce outages, which include the following locations:

  • Forest Park City Hall (2 additional light fixtures)
  • Forest Park Police Department Headquarters (upgrades to 10 fixtures)
  • Leonard Hartsfield, Sr. Community Center (upgrades to 3 fixtures)
  • Forest Park Recreation Center (upgrades to 8 fixtures)
  • Fire Station No. 1 (upgrades to 1 fixture)
  • Fire Station No. 2 (upgrades to 3 fixtures)
  • Forest Park Public Works Building (upgrades to 16 fixtures)
  • Perkins Park (1 additional light fixture and upgrades to 1 fixture)
  • Alder Park (1 additional light fixture)
  • Second Street Park (1 additional light fixture)
  • Theater Park (1 additional light fixture)

"There are several benefits that come with upgrading and installing reliable light fixtures throughout the city, such as improved visibility at night, increased energy efficiency and even additional crime prevention efforts," said City Manager Ricky L. Clark, Jr. "We are extremely proud of the public-private partnership we continue to build with companies like Georgia Power and together, we are letting individuals, families and those who chose to do business here in our city know that the future of Forest Park has never been brighter."

LED street lights are known for their long lifespan and, in some cases, can last up to 10 times longer than conventional street lights. By reducing the frequency of replacements and maintenance, LED street lights have become a staple in hundreds of small, medium and large municipalities across the nation.

“We congratulate Mayor Butler and the City of Forest Park for making this investment in elevating public safety, enhancing the quality of life for residents and creating an even more welcoming destination for visitors,” said Jeff Goolsby, Region Executive for Georgia Power. “Across Georgia, we continue to work with forward-looking cities like Forest Park to develop and deploy lighting solutions that can benefit every citizen. Our teams live and work in this community as well, so we share the city’s pride and excitement in this new project.”
