Proclamation Recognizing June 2023 as Immigration Heritage Month

On June 5, 2023, ​a proclamation was presented by the Honorable Mayor Angelyne Butler, MPA, and Forest Park City Council recognizing June 2023 as Immigration Heritage Month.

WHEREAS: Throughout our nation’s history, generations of courageous immigrants from around the world have helped build the American economy, while also influencing the unique character of communities across the United States, and;

WHEREAS:  According to the American Immigration Council, the State of Georgia is home to nearly 1.1 million immigrants, making up approximately 11 percent of the state’s total population, and;

WHEREAS: Each year, immigrants from coast to coast successfully launch new businesses that generate millions of jobs in America, and they are also employed in every major industry, including healthcare, public service, education, engineering, construction, agriculture, manufacturing, hospitality, and countless others, and;

WHEREAS: Despite these and many other incredible contributions, the role of immigrants in building and enriching our nation has frequently been overlooked and undervalued throughout our history – a trend that remains to this present day, and;

WHEREAS: Immigrants are tireless leaders not only in securing their own rights and access to equal opportunities, but have also campaigned to create a fairer and more just society for all those seeking to live the American Dream.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of Forest Park hereby recognizes June 2023 as Immigration Heritage Month and honors the immeasurable contributions that have been made by immigrants here in Clayton County, as well as throughout the entire country.
