City Teaming Up With American Red Cross To Install Free Smoke Alarms
FOREST PARK, Ga. — June 5, 2025 — The Forest Park Fire and Emergency Services Department is proud to announce its participation in this year's national Sound the Alarm campaign, an initiative spearheaded by the American Red Cross designed to help install free smoke alarms and encourage families to learn more about the importance of fire safety.
On Saturday, June 14, representatives from the American Red Cross of Georgia, Forest Park Fire and Emergency Services Department and dozens of volunteers plan to install hundreds of FREE smoke alarms donated by HD Supply for city residents living along or near the areas of South Avenue, Lee Circle and Ash Street. Prior to the installations, a training will be held at Forest Park Fire Station #2, located at 785 Linda Way, for all event volunteers. Topics covered during the training will include available fire safety resources, creating an escape plan and emergency preparedness.
According to the American Red Cross, seven people die every day in house fires most often due to non-working smoke alarms. Since 2014, the American Red Cross has installed more than 2.5 million free smoke alarms nationwide, while also working to reduce the numbers of fire-related injuries and deaths.
