Patrolman Richard Rick Lewis Cash
Forest Park Police Department

Patrolman Richard Ricky Cash was shot and killed during a traffic stop. Patrolman Cash made a traffic stop on a vehicle with two occupants. Patrolman Cash radioed for back up after the passenger started acting suspicious. Lieutenant Jim Scott was nearby and responded to assist Patrolman Cash. When the lieutenant arrived, he and Patrolman Cash started questioning the passenger outside of the vehicle.
During their conversation, the passenger assaulted Patrolman Cash and produced a small revolver. Patrolman Cash and the passenger started struggling and the passenger shot Patrolman Cash several times, killing him. The passenger then shot the lieutenant, who returned fire striking the passenger. The passenger was able to get back into the vehicle and fled the scene.
Patrolman Cash and his lieutenant were rushed to a local hospital where Patrolman Cash later died. The suspect vehicle went to the same hospital and dropped off the passenger, who was also rushed to surgery, where he died. Unbeknownst to either officer, the two suspects were also suspects in a homicide that occurred six months earlier.
Patrolman Cash had served with the Forest Park Police Department for 3 years. He was survived by his wife and two children
Captain Dale Moe Moorefield
Served 1974 - 1996
The Forest Park Police Department's Chief of Detectives, Capt. Dale Moorefield, 47, died Oct. 20 1996 from injuries received when his motorcycle collided with a van in the northern part of the state. Moorefield was leading a group of motorcyclists when the van turned onto his path at an intersection. He was a member of the Clayton County Sheriff's Department before joining the Forest Park police force in 1974.
Captain H. Harold A. Babb
Served 1966 - 1996
Captain Harold A. Babb, Sr. (Retired), of Forest Park, died July 14, 2006. He was an U.S. Army veteran and was retired from the Forest Park Police Department with 31 years of service.
Colonel J. Jerry A. Church
Served 1965 - 2005
Colonel Jerry Church was a lawman with the Forest Park police department, rising from Patrol Officer to Assistant Chief. He was the agency's longest tenured employee when he retired in 2005 with the rank of Colonel
Chief Joseph Joe . F. Picard
Served 1958 - 1996
Chief Picard, was a dedicated public servant for the City of Forest Park from 1958-1996, whose leadership of the Police department was demonstrated with a high level of administrative efficiency and effectiveness. He developed one of the State's first Public Safety Departments. He was uncanny in judging people and assessing their strengths and weaknesses and enjoyed the reputation as a tough, but fair minded administrator.
