A firefighter is trained through the state of Georgia or a state approved program to learn the ins and outs of fire and fire control. Firefighting is considered one of the worlds most honored occupations. Firefighting is dangerous requiring a high level of personal dedication, a genuine desire to help people, and a high level of skill. A firefighter’s job is difficult to describe as calls for help can vary from simple to extremely complicated and advanced. Life safety, Incident Stabilization, and property conservation are the duties required of a firefighter every day on every call. Firefighter are also utilized in assisting in fire prevention and education, public events, and community services. A firefighter is truly a jack of all trades when it comes to services provided. The City of Forest Park is a career fire department where all employees are paid. The schedule for firefighters is 24 hours on shift at the fire station, from 7am to 7am the following day, followed by 48 hours off.
